What Makes a Column “Tall” in the First Place

A standard two post lift column typically runs in the range that fits most 10 to 11 foot ceilings with a few feet of clearance above the lift’s maximum rise. Tall column two post lifts stretch that column, sometimes by a foot or more, so the carriage and arms can travel higher before the vehicle’s roof or lift arms reach the top of the structure. The tradeoff is straightforward: taller columns need taller buildings, more overhead clearance for the crossbar or cable sheave assembly at the top, and sometimes a wider footprint depending on the base design.

A shop with an 11 foot ceiling gains nothing from a tall column and loses the ability to use a standard model efficiently.
