We always tell customers to pull the actual installation manual for the specific lift model they’re buying rather than relying on general rules of thumb, because requirements shift with capacity rating and column spacing. A 9,000 lb two-post lift and a 15,000 lb two-post lift from the same manufacturer can have different pad requirements. If your existing floor doesn’t meet the published spec, your options are pouring a new pad, saw-cutting and replacing just the footprint area, or in some cases stepping down to a lift model engineered for thinner slabs.

Why Age and Cure Matter as Much as Depth

A slab can be poured to the correct depth and still fail an anchor test if it hasn’t cured properly. Concrete continues gaining strength for weeks after it looks and feels solid, which is why the 28-day cure window shows up in almost every lift manufacturer’s spec sheet. We’ve been called out to garages where a slab was poured just two or three weeks before the scheduled install, and we had to push the date back rather than anchor into concrete that hadn’t reached its rated PSI.
