Start With Ceiling Height, Not Floor Space

Aisle width matters just as much once the vehicle is in the air — techs need room to roll a creeper, wheel a tire cart, or back a transmission jack under the vehicle without threading a needle between lift posts. If you’re running multiple bays side by side, plan enough distance between lift columns so raised arms and swing-out arms from adjacent lifts never overlap. Plan Power and Hydraulic Routing Before the Slab Is Set

Electrical and hydraulic lines are easy to forget until the lift is sitting there and nobody planned a conduit run. Most two-post and four-post lifts need a dedicated electrical circuit sized to the power unit, and running that line after the slab is poured means either surface conduit — which is fine but not always ideal — or cutting concrete you just paid to finish. In-ground lifts add another layer since hydraulic lines route below the slab, which means this decision has to be locked in before concrete goes down, not after. Even surface lifts benefit from planning the power drop location relative to where the control box will actually sit, so cords aren’t stretched across a walking path.
