You need the truck high enough to work comfortably, but you also need clean access to the pan without an arm or a lifting pad sitting right where you want your hands. That’s fine for a lot of general repair work, but on a longer wheelbase truck with a front-heavy drivetrain, it can put a rear arm right underneath the pan.

The arm swing is predictable, the pad placement is consistent vehicle to vehicle, and there’s less guesswork for a tech who’s jumping between ten different cars in a day. Before you buy, walk through your typical vehicle types, your heaviest and longest builds, the specific jobs you do most often like oil pan gasket work or transmission service, and your shop’s physical constraints like ceiling height and floor condition.
