His collection wasn’t full-size trucks and heavy-duty vans — it was a mix of classic coupes, a couple of daily drivers, and one project sedan he was slowly restoring. Install Day in Iowa City: Concrete, Forklift, and Timing

Before we ever showed up, we asked the same questions we ask every customer: is there a forklift on site, is the concrete rated for the anchors, and how much lead time do we need for freight. His garage had a slab poured for a previous single-post lift, and we had to confirm it was thick enough for the new anchor pattern before scheduling anything. He mentioned catching drips cleanly for the first time in years, since he could position the pan exactly where he wanted instead of shimmying it under a car propped on stands. Small stuff, but it’s the difference between dreading maintenance and actually doing it.

Living With Baseplate Day to Day

A year of daily use tells you things a showroom visit never will. He said the baseplate ramp took a week or two to get used to driving over smoothly, but once he had the muscle memory down it became a non-issue. Storage-wise, he genuinely likes not having anything overhead — he can back a tall trailer or a roof rack vehicle into the bay next to it without a second thought, something that would’ve required more careful measuring with an overhead beam in place.

The one adjustment was floor space around the baseplate rails themselves — he had to rearrange a couple of tool chests that used to sit closer to that side of the garage. Minor tradeoff for what he considers the safer configuration for his lower cars. He’s since parked and lifted probably a dozen different vehicles on it, and the consistency has been the biggest win — same smooth ride up every time, no surprises.

Maintenance and What We Check on Service Visits

We came back out around the six-month mark for a routine check, which is standard for any 7000 lb rotary car lift install we do — cables, arm pins, hydraulic fluid level, anchor torque.
