That single detail changes the freight cost, the delivery window, and how smooth install day goes more than almost anything else. Scenario One: Shop With a Forklift Already On Site

The easiest version of getting auto lifts installed is the one where a transmission shop already owns or rents a forklift for engine and transmission handling. We had a NAPA-affiliated shop in the corridor with exactly this setup — freight truck backed up, forklift staged, and the driver could pull crates off the trailer in under an hour. Transmission service bays tend to have tighter clearances than a general repair bay because shops pack them with pan-drop tables, fluid exchange machines, and rolling stands. A forklift with a narrow mast can thread through an open bay door and set a column down within a few feet of its final position. We’ve had jobs where infloor heat had to be shut off the night before so we could see the heat lines before anchoring, and jobs where a shop assumed four-inch concrete was fine when the anchor pattern needed six. Add a forklift-less unloading situation on top of an unready slab and you’ve got a install day that starts late and finishes later, or doesn’t finish at all.

Our standard advice to any transmission shop scheduling auto lifts installed work is to treat freight readiness and concrete readiness as the same conversation, not two separate ones. Confirm the forklift situation, confirm the slab thickness and cure time, and confirm bay clearance all in the same pre-install call. A forklift-ready install typically runs on the lower end of our per-lift labor range because the crew isn’t spending paid hours hand-moving freight. A no-forklift install runs higher because we either bring extra hands, rent equipment locally, or absorb the added time it takes to walk components into the bay by hand.
