Month six: the frame welding and the arm restraint stress test
Around month six, the shop welded a new frame section into a vintage travel trailer chassis. The gear-and-pawl arm restraints we spec’d out engaged cleanly every reposition, which was the whole point of paying up for that restraint style. If they had gone with a gravity-drop restraint they would have been climbing up the column three times a day to confirm engagement. Instead they clicked, they raised, they welded.
The arm rotation itself held up too. When you grind or weld under a chassis, the vibration walks the arms slightly if the restraints are not fully engaged. Month nine: the first real problem and the fix

The shop called us in a panic thinking they had broken something. What we did do was rebalance the flow one more time after a full year of use, and re-lube the sheaves at the top of each column. That is preventive, not corrective. The reason we do it every year is that a lube job at year one prevents a cable replacement at year eight. The shop paid for the annual service (a modest cost) and walked away with paperwork, updated ALI compliance verification, and a lift ready for another year.
