Why an RV and Trailer Shop Even Needs a 2 Post Car Lift

Most people picture a 2 post car lift under a sedan getting an oil change, but the shop we’re talking about here works on Class A and Class C motorhomes, fifth wheels, and dual-axle trailers with beefy differentials that need fluid changes on a schedule. Before the lift went in, that meant floor jacks, jack stands, and a lot of crawling under a vehicle at an angle that made checking fill plugs and drain plugs slower and more awkward than it needed to be. The owner told us plainly: he wasn’t trying to become a full alignment shop, he just wanted the tow vehicles and heavier trailers up in the air safely so a tech could get under the diff housing standing up.

That’s a common misconception we run into — people assume 2 post lifts are only for daily-driver sedans and light trucks. The Overhead vs Baseplate Question, Answered Honestly

Concrete, Freight, and Getting Ready for Install Day

The shop owner mentioned within the first month that his techs were simply faster on diff jobs because they weren’t second-guessing the setup every time.

Arms, Adapters, and Getting Trailer Axles Right

Trailers are where a lot of shops get surprised, because standard truck adapters don’t always land in the right spot on a tandem-axle trailer frame. We spent time with this shop’s techs going over where to place adapters on their most common trailer models so the lift’s arms picked up structural frame rails rather than anything that could bend or flex under load.
