A standard 10,000-pound Rotary SPO10 measures roughly 138 inches column height, 145 inches overall column width outside-to-outside, and about 105 inches drive-through clearance between columns. Ceiling minimum is 138 inches finished. Arm reach at full extension is about 40 inches short and 60 inches long on the front, with the rear arms slightly shorter. Those are the numbers your GC needs before framing the bay wall.
If you are building a dealership bay from scratch we recommend 14 feet of interior width to give the tech elbow room outside the columns, and 12 feet of ceiling clearance to accommodate the crossbar plus overhead lighting and any HVAC ductwork. A modern service department that skimps on the bay dimensions ends up with a technician who cannot get around the vehicle efficiently, and cycle time on oil service gets crushed. Baseplate becomes relevant only when the ceiling is under 11 feet, and no modern dealer service construction should have ceilings that low. If you are retrofitting an older service department with lower ceilings, baseplate is a fine fallback but the cable channel at the floor becomes a maintenance point — it can accumulate dirt and it is a small trip hazard around the columns.

The install took a single day. The overhead auto-shutoff bar tested at 138 inches, which was inside the vehicle mix and gave them clearance for occasional light-duty trucks. Whichever configuration you pick, the auto-shutoff bar or overhead pressure-sensor bar is a safety feature that prevents the vehicle antenna or a roof rack from crushing against the crossbar. Test it on every install and re-verify at every annual inspection. It is a $50 part that has saved a lot of expensive damage.
Financing Terms and the Payment Schedule
Most dealership service capital purchases run through the manufacturer’s finance arm or a third-party equipment lender. A 2 post car lift is a standard capex line item that lenders understand well. Terms typically run 36 to 60 months. Rates depend on the borrower’s credit — a franchised dealer will get better rates than an independent. Payments are usually straight-line with no balloon. Down payment can be zero on a well-qualified dealer file, though we recommend some down payment to reduce total interest paid.

Grease points on the sheaves and slider blocks get done monthly. Hydraulic fluid gets sampled annually and changed on a longer interval unless the sample says otherwise.
This is more maintenance than a home-garage lift needs. It is also cheap insurance on a piece of equipment that is running a revenue line six days a week. A dealership service manager who follows this schedule will get twenty years out of a Rotary or Challenger commercial 2 post car lift with only a cable set at year eight, a cylinder reseal at year twelve, and normal wear items in between. Skip the maintenance and you get random failures that take the bay down during peak volume. The math on peak-volume downtime is brutal — a Saturday morning with the express bay closed can cost thousands. Preventive maintenance is the cheapest revenue insurance in the shop.
