The 2 post car lift is the most widely used piece of equipment in automotive service. Walk into any general repair shop, dealership service department, or fleet maintenance facility in the country and you will find at least one. Most shops have several. The reason is simple: a 2 post car lift provides full 360-degree undercarriage access in a compact footprint, handles everything from compact sedans to one-ton trucks, and costs less per bay than any other full-rise lift type.
At Auto Lift Services, we sell, ship, and coordinate installation of 2 post car lifts nationwide. We carry the Challenger and Rotary lines — the two brands that dominate commercial and professional shops across the United States. Whether you are outfitting a single-bay independent, expanding a multi-bay dealership, or building a new facility from the ground up, we have the right 2 post car lift for sale at the right capacity, height, and price point.
Why the 2-Post Lift Is the Industry Standard
A 2 post car lift bolts two columns to your shop floor, one on each side of the vehicle. Hydraulic cylinders raise carriages up the columns, and swing arms extend under the vehicle at manufacturer-recommended pick points. The vehicle lifts off the ground with nothing underneath it — no runways, no platforms, no obstructions. Your technicians get full access to the suspension, brakes, exhaust, drivetrain, steering, and frame from every angle.
That unrestricted access is why the 2 post car lift outsells every other lift type for general automotive repair. Brake jobs, suspension work, oil changes, transmission service, exhaust replacement, fluid flushes — all of it is faster and easier when the tech can roll a creeper, position a jack, or walk freely beneath the vehicle.
The footprint matters too. A 2 post car lift for sale typically requires a bay as narrow as 12 feet wide and 24 feet deep. Compare that to a 4-post lift that needs 13 to 15 feet of width and 27 feet of depth, or an inground lift that requires major concrete work. For shops maximizing the number of bays in a given building, 2 post lifts deliver the most productive use of floor space.
Challenger 2-Post Car Lifts We Sell
Challenger Lifts has been building professional-grade automotive lifts in Louisville, Kentucky for decades. Their 2-post lineup covers every capacity from 9,000 to 20,000 pounds, and every model is ALI Certified. We sell the full Challenger 2 post car lift lineup and ship nationwide.
Challenger CL10AV3 — 10,000 lb Asymmetric (Best Seller)
The CL10AV3 is the 2 post car lift for sale that fits the majority of automotive shops in the country. It delivers 10,000 pounds of capacity with Challenger’s versymmetric arm design — the arms work in both asymmetric and symmetric positions. Asymmetric positioning shifts the vehicle slightly behind the columns for better door-open access. Symmetric positioning centers the vehicle between columns for trucks and long-wheelbase vehicles.
At 143 inches overall height, the CL10AV3 fits in any shop with 12 feet of ceiling clearance. Rise height is 78 inches — plenty of room for techs to work underneath without crouching. This lift handles everything from a Honda Civic to a Ford F-250 with comfortable margin.
Challenger CLFP9 — 9,000 lb Low-Ceiling
Thousands of shops across the country operate in buildings with ceilings under 12 feet. Older buildings, converted warehouses, strip-mall bays, and rural shop buildings often have 11 to 11.5 feet of clearance. A standard 2 post car lift will not fit. The Challenger CLFP9 solves this at 136 inches overall height — it fits in buildings with ceilings as low as 11 feet 6 inches while still delivering 75 inches of rise and 9,000 pounds of capacity.
If your building has low ceilings, the CLFP9 is the 2 post car lift for sale that eliminates the need for expensive building modifications.
Challenger VLE10 — 10,000 lb Value Line
The VLE10 gives you 10,000 pounds of lifting capacity at a lower price than the CL10AV3. Same core lift engineering, same safety systems, same ALI Certification. The savings come from a simplified power unit, standard finish, and fewer convenience features. For startup shops, independent operators, and budget-conscious facility expansions, the VLE10 delivers professional-grade performance without the premium cost.
Challenger CL12A — 12,000 lb Heavy Duty
When your shop regularly services three-quarter-ton and one-ton trucks, commercial vans, and larger utility vehicles, 10,000 pounds is not enough. The CL12A provides 12,000 pounds of capacity to handle F-350s, RAM 3500s, Sprinter vans, and Transit vans without pushing the lift to its limits. Same footprint as the CL10AV3 with the added capacity for today’s heavier truck market.
Challenger CL16 — 16,000 lb Extra Heavy Duty
The CL16 steps into medium-duty territory. At 16,000 pounds, it handles Class 4 and 5 vehicles — ambulances, box trucks, larger utility trucks, and heavy commercial vans. The three-stage front arms extend further to reach pick points on longer wheelbase vehicles. This is a 2 post car lift for sale built for shops that mix passenger vehicle work with heavier commercial service.
Challenger CL20 — 20,000 lb Maximum Capacity
The CL20 is the largest 2-post lift in the Challenger lineup. At 20,000 pounds, it lifts vehicles that would normally require a 4-post or drive-on lift — Class 6 trucks, large utility vehicles, RVs, and heavy commercial equipment. For shops that need the full undercarriage access of a 2-post design at heavy-duty capacity, the CL20 is the answer.
Rotary 2-Post Car Lifts We Sell
Rotary Lift has been in the automotive lift business since 1925 and remains one of the most recognized names in the industry. Their SPO series covers the core capacity range that most commercial shops need.
Rotary SPO10 — 10,000 lb
The SPO10 is Rotary’s flagship 10,000-pound 2 post car lift. Available in both symmetric and asymmetric configurations, it provides the flexibility to handle passenger vehicles, SUVs, and light trucks. Rotary’s engineering reputation and parts availability make the SPO10 a strong choice for shops that prefer the Rotary brand or need compatibility with existing Rotary equipment.
Rotary SPO12 — 12,000 lb
The SPO12 adds 2,000 pounds of capacity for shops handling heavier trucks and commercial vehicles alongside standard passenger car work. Same SPO platform with upgraded cylinders and structural reinforcement for the added load.
Rotary SPO16 — 16,000 lb
For medium-duty and heavy commercial service, the SPO16 delivers 16,000 pounds of capacity in Rotary’s proven SPO design. This is a 2 post car lift for sale for fleet operations, municipal garages, and commercial service centers that handle vehicles ranging from sedans to Class 5 trucks.
How to Choose the Right 2 Post Car Lift
Capacity: Buy for Your Heaviest Regular Vehicle
Size the lift to the heaviest vehicle you service on a regular basis, not the heaviest vehicle you might see once a year. A shop doing general automotive repair on passenger cars, crossovers, and half-ton pickups needs 10,000 pounds. A shop that regularly works on one-ton trucks and commercial vans needs 12,000 pounds. A shop mixing passenger and medium-duty commercial work needs 16,000 pounds.
Always leave a safety margin. Industry best practice is a lift rated at least 25 percent above the gross vehicle weight of your heaviest regular vehicle.
Ceiling Height: Measure Before You Buy
A standard 2 post car lift needs 12 feet of ceiling clearance. Measure your clear height — below joists, ductwork, lighting, sprinkler pipes, and garage door tracks. If you are under 12 feet, the Challenger CLFP9 at 136 inches is your option. If you are under 11 feet 6 inches, a 2-post lift may not be feasible and you should consider a low-rise or mid-rise alternative.
Concrete: 4 Inches Minimum at 3,000 PSI
Every 2 post car lift for sale requires adequate concrete for safe anchor installation. The minimum is 4 inches of reinforced concrete at 3,000 PSI compressive strength. Older buildings, buildings in regions with freeze-thaw cycles, and buildings on clay soils should have concrete tested before purchasing. A core test costs $200 to $400 and prevents a much more expensive problem after the lift arrives.
Electrical: 208-230V Single Phase
All Challenger and Rotary 2 post car lifts in the 9,000 to 20,000-pound range run on 208-230V single-phase power. Most commercial buildings already have this available. Budget $500 to $1,500 for a dedicated circuit if you need one added.
