Concrete and Anchoring Come Before the Lift Order

This is where garage build-out sequencing bites people. Every 2 post car lift needs a slab that meets a minimum thickness and PSI rating for the anchor bolts to hold under load, and older Urbandale shop buildings — especially ones converted from other uses — don’t always have that. We generally point fleet buyers toward Rotary or Challenger for this application, since replacement parts and arm hardware are easy to source quickly when something wears out mid-inspection-season. That matters more for a fleet doing volume work than it does for a single-vehicle home garage, because downtime on your only lift during inspection crunch is expensive. A 2 post car lift that’s down for two weeks waiting on a part is worse than one that cost a little more up front but has parts on the shelf.

Power, Air, and Utility Runs

Two post lifts need a dedicated electrical circuit sized to the power unit’s motor, and if you’re installing Configuration B with two units, you need two circuits, not one split feed. We’ve seen shops try to run both lifts off a shared 20-amp circuit to save an electrician visit, and it works fine until both lifts get used at once during a busy inspection day and something trips. Sequence the electrical work before the lift shows up on the truck, not after, so installation day isn’t spent waiting on an electrician.

Air lines matter too if you’re running impact tools or pneumatic locks near the lift bay, and running that line during the same wall-opening work as the electrical saves a second round of drywall patching later. Sequencing the Install Around Your Inspection Calendar

Most fleets don’t have the luxury of shutting down for a week during install. Lead time on freight matters here too — ask us early about delivery timing so the lift arrives with a buffer before your target install week rather than a rushed same-week scramble.

What Inspection-Focused Layouts Get Wrong
