Myth: Any Ceiling Over 12 Feet Is Enough

Shops assume a 12 foot ceiling automatically clears any two-post lift, but that number ignores overall lift height at full rise, arm height, and the vehicle itself. A 10,000 lb symmetric unit can need 12 to 14 feet of clearance just to reach full travel, and that’s before accounting for a raised vehicle or roof-mounted equipment like HVAC ductwork, sprinkler heads, or lighting fixtures that eat into usable height.
