The Starting Point: A Shop Built Around Lifted Trucks

Most overlanding and off-road builders are working on vehicles that don’t fit the assumptions baked into a standard consumer lift quote. Taller ride height, aftermarket bumpers, winches, and roof racks all change how a vehicle sits on the arms and how much clearance you actually need above it. This builder was running gasket and oil pan work regularly on lifted trucks and needed a 2 post parking lift that wouldn’t fight him on arm reach or overhead room.

We started the same way we start every quote: what’s the heaviest and tallest vehicle you’re realistically lifting. His answer wasn’t a sedan or a stock pickup, it was a suspension-lifted truck with oversized tires and a roof rack, sitting several inches taller than stock. For this shop, the question wasn’t academic: his building had usable ceiling height, but roof racks and antenna mounts on his customers’ vehicles meant the margin at full rise was tighter than a typical shop.

We measured floor-to-ceiling with his tallest actual vehicle in mind, accessories included, not just the vehicle body height. That’s a step a lot of shops skip, and it’s exactly the kind of detail that turns into a costly mistake if you order an overhead 2 post parking lift and then discover a customer’s roof rack clips the beam at full rise. In his case, the numbers worked out fine for overhead once we accounted for the accessories, but it was close enough that we walked through the baseplate option seriously before finalizing anything.

Sizing for Lifted Trucks: Capacity Isn’t Just Weight

His floor was in solid shape, which kept the install itself simple and let our crew focus on precise column alignment rather than remediation work.

We walked him through safety operation on the equipment before we left, covering the overhead safety shutoff bar and single-point safety release specifically because those features matter more with taller vehicles where sightlines around the vehicle are different than with a standard sedan. For any shop running lifted vehicles, that walkthrough isn’t optional. The taller the vehicle, the more the operator needs to understand how the safety systems behave at full rise.

What We’d Tell Other Overlanding and Off-Road Shops

If you’re building a shop around lifted trucks, overlanding rigs, or off-road builds, don’t shop a 2 post parking lift by capacity number alone.
