Dealership bays built in the 1990s and early 2000s often have 12 to 14 foot ceilings, while newer service centers built for larger trucks and vans push closer to 16 feet. A unit with a 6-foot rise and a lowered platform height of 10 inches sounds simple, but once you add the top beam and any safety lock hardware, you can eat another 12 to 18 inches of vertical space you didn’t budget for.

For a Sioux City dealership doing brake and rotor work, full rise usually isn’t necessary — most rotor swaps and brake jobs only need the vehicle up around chest to shoulder height for the tech, not maxed out. Most techs prefer the vehicle at a height where wheel and caliper access is comfortable standing or on a low stool, typically somewhere in the middle of a 4 car lift’s rise range rather than maxed out.
