40000 lb Truck Lift For Sale — PKS PK40 & Mobile Columns

A 40000 lb truck lift for sale is a real semi-truck maintenance bay purchase — not a heavy pickup lift with a big number. At 40,000 lb capacity you are lifting single-axle Class 8 tractors, tandem-axle straight trucks with loaded bodies, small refuse trucks, transit and school buses, and medium heavy-equipment on flat-decks. This is the working capacity for a lot of independent truck shops, municipal garages, and mining and construction service bays. We are Automotive Lift Services in Ames, Iowa, and we deliver, install, and service 40K-class lifts across the country.

Two honest paths at 40K

There are two legitimate ways to lift a 40,000 lb vehicle. The first is a fixed 4-post drive-on rated for the full capacity — the PKS PK40 is our flagship in that class, with Mohawk building equivalent 4-post product. The second is a set of heavy-duty mobile column lifts — four columns rated at 18,000 lb each gives 72,000 lb of combined capacity, and six columns at 18,000 lb each stretches that past 100,000 lb for long tandem-axle work. Which one is right for you comes down to how often the vehicle stays on the lift, whether the trailer is dropped, and how much slab you are willing to prep. A 40000 lb truck lift for sale is not a one-size answer.

The PKS PK40 as our 4-post flagship

PKS builds one of the best-value heavy-duty 4-post lifts on the market. The PK40 is rated at 40,000 lb, uses a chain-over-cylinder hydraulic design, and comes with mechanical safety locks every 4 inches through the full lift height. Runway lengths are sized for single-axle Class 8 tractors and long-wheelbase straight trucks. Optional accessories include air-line kits, drive-over ramps, and rolling jacks for wheels-free service. If your shop wants a permanent, drive-on 40000 lb truck lift for sale at a fair price versus the Rotary or Mohawk equivalents, PK40 is where we start.

Mohawk 4-post option

Mohawk builds American-made heavy-duty 4-post lifts in the 40K envelope for shops that want a domestic manufacturer with a long installed base. The design language is different from PKS — heavier column steel, slightly different lock geometry — and the price point is higher, but the lifts are known for long service life and strong warranty support. We quote both when it makes sense, and we will tell you honestly which one fits your bay and vehicle mix.

Mobile columns as the flexible alternative

For a lot of heavy-duty shops, mobile column lifts are the smarter buy at this capacity. Four Rotary or Mohawk 18,000 lb columns roll out of a corner, wrap the wheels of a Class 8 tractor, and lift the whole vehicle wheels-free — trailer still hooked, or dropped, your choice. Six columns at 18k give you the reach to lift a full tandem-axle unit. When the bay is empty the columns roll into storage and the floor is clear again. Compare mobile columns to a fixed 4-post on our mobile column lift for sale price article and browse the full lineup in our mobile column lift collection. Rotary heavy-duty and Mohawk LMF/System-I are the two lines we lead with.

Slab and building requirements

A 40,000 lb 4-post lift needs 6 to 8 inches of 3,000 psi concrete minimum, cured 28 days, with anchor edge-distance called out by the manufacturer. Mobile columns are less demanding — most modern battery-powered columns run on a standard 4-inch shop slab if it is sound — but you still need level concrete under all four (or six) wheel forks. We pull the exact slab spec before quoting so you know what you are working with. If your slab is questionable, we will say so; we would rather lose the sale than sell you a 40000 lb truck lift for sale that anchors into weak concrete. Any serious 40000 lb truck lift for sale is an anchor-critical purchase.

Runway length, drive-through, and building height

Runway lengths in the 40K 4-post class typically start around 30 feet and stretch past 34 feet for long-wheelbase Class 8 work. Overhead ceiling clearance needs to accommodate the full raised height plus the tallest vehicle in your fleet — cab-and-chassis service trucks with stacks or utility bodies can eat clearance faster than you expect. Our 4-post lift collection lists column-to-column dimensions and drive-through width per model. The heavy-duty truck lift guide works through the runway math for common Class 8 configurations.

Freight, install, and startup

A 40K 4-post ships as three to four pallets, 8,000 to 12,000 lb total, with columns crated upright and safe for a standard flatbed or LTL freight truck. Mobile columns ship as individual crated columns, one per pallet, plus the control column and battery packs. Installation on a 4-post is a full-day job for a two-person crew; mobile columns are much simpler — uncrate, charge, and sync the columns to the control unit. Our nationwide installer network handles both, and every install includes safety-lock cycle testing, hydraulic bleed, and load testing before sign-off.

Parts, service, and long-term support

Whichever path you choose, we back it long after delivery. PKS, Rotary, and Mohawk parts are all in our supply chain, and our parts lookup page catalogs the components that fail — cylinders, sheaves, cables, battery packs on mobile columns, latch dogs on fixed lifts. We also repair heavy-duty lifts already in the field; if you have a lift from any manufacturer that is showing its age, we can service it.

If you are evaluating a 40000 lb truck lift for sale, call us at 800-674-9302 and we will walk through the fixed-versus-mobile decision, size the equipment to your actual vehicle mix, and quote freight and install cleanly. This is a shop-defining purchase and we will not sell you the wrong lift to hit a number.
