We hear the same myths repeated by techs who’ve been doing this for years, and most of them come from good intentions with bad information. Myth #1: “If the cable isn’t frayed, it’s fine”

This is the single most common mistake we see on a 7000 lb car lift used daily for oil changes. Techs glance at the cable, see no visible fraying, and move on. But cable failure on a lift rarely starts with obvious frizzing on the outside — it starts inside the strands, where individual wires can break under repeated load cycles without ever showing on the surface. A European specialty shop doing five or six fluid services a day puts real cumulative stress on that cable, even though a BMW 3-series or Audi A4 isn’t a heavy vehicle.
