Before you order anything, look honestly at what rolls through your bays. Most tire and alignment shops handle everything from compact sedans to half-ton trucks and the occasional heavier SUV. A 7000 lb car lift covers the vast majority of that mix comfortably, but if you’re regularly seeing 3/4-ton trucks with towing packages or fleet vans, you may be better served pairing one 7000 lb unit with a higher-capacity lift elsewhere in the shop rather than trying to make one rating cover everything.

For CV axle and half-shaft work specifically, capacity matters less than reach and access. You need the vehicle high enough to work comfortably at shoulder or chest height, with arms positioned so they’re not blocking your swing space around the wheel well.
