Most of the time it traces back to the same handful of build-out mistakes. EV specialty shops in particular tend to get this wrong because they’re used to sizing equipment around light passenger sedans, then suddenly they’re quoting transmission service and battery pack drops on trucks and SUVs that weigh a lot more than the compact EVs they started with. Myth: A 9000 lb Car Lift Is Overkill for an EV Shop

This is the biggest misconception we hear. EV shop owners assume that because the cars they service are lighter than a diesel truck, a 7,000 lb lift will cover them fine. The problem is battery placement, not overall curb weight. Many EV platforms carry the battery pack low and centered, which shifts the effective lifting points and load distribution in ways a lift rated right at the vehicle’s curb weight can’t comfortably handle with margin left over. A 9000 lb car lift gives you buffer for battery service carts, added fixtures, and the reality that EV service bays often end up doing double duty on gas trucks and SUVs too.

We’ve watched shops undersize their first lift, then call us eighteen months later needing a second one because the shop mix changed. Buying the capacity you’ll need in three years, not just this year, saves you a second install fee and a second concrete inspection down the road.

Myth: Any Concrete Slab Will Support It

Before you sign off on any other build-out item, get your lift’s footprint, post spacing, and overhead clearance requirements in hand. It’s the one dimension that constrains everything else in the bay.

Myth: Two-Post Is Always Right for Transmission Work

Two-post asymmetric lifts are great for general EV service, but transmission R&R work benefits from thinking about how you’ll get a transmission jack under the vehicle without fighting the arms and posts. Some shops are better served by a wider four-post or a mid-rise configuration paired with a rolling transmission jack, depending on volume and vehicle mix. We walk through this with every EV shop that calls us, because the wrong configuration for transmission work means techs working around the lift instead of with it.

Myth: Power Requirements Are the Same as Any Other Lift

EV shops already have unusual electrical demands from charging equipment, and it’s easy to assume the lift just plugs into whatever circuit is nearby. A 9000 lb car lift’s hydraulic pump draws real power, and if you’ve got charging infrastructure sharing a panel, we want to know the full electrical load before install day, not after the breaker starts tripping. This is a coordination step that gets skipped constantly in build-outs that are moving fast.

Myth: Installation Is a DIY-Friendly Job

We understand the instinct to save money by self-installing, especially for shop owners who are mechanically capable. But a 9000 lb car lift install involves precision anchoring, hydraulic line routing, and calibration that affects the safety of every vehicle that goes on it afterward. Myth: All 9000 lb Lifts Are Interchangeable
