Guys building overlanding rigs and lifted trucks quickly outgrow ramps and low-profile jacks. Once you’ve got a 3-inch lift kit, oversized tires, and a skid plate package bolted underneath, you need full, unobstructed access to the exhaust system, transfer case, and driveshafts — and you need it at a height where you’re not crawling on your back. That’s exactly why above ground automotive lifts have become the standard recommendation we make to builders in this space, whether they’re in Ames, Cedar Rapids, or just across the river in Illinois.

Slab thickness and rebar placement matter just as much. A 4-inch slab without proper reinforcement isn’t going to hold anchors reliably under repeated lift cycles with heavy trucks. We always recommend a minimum of 4 inches of properly cured, reinforced concrete for a two-post installation, and we check this on every site visit before finalizing a quote. Skipping this step is how you end up with a lift that works fine for six months and then starts wobbling.
