The AC1234-6 Robinair is the AC recovery/recharge machine that shows up again and again in shops that touch a lot of different makes and model years, and that’s exactly the situation a lot of east-central Iowa collectors find themselves in once a storage barn turns into something closer to a working shop. If you’ve got six or eight vehicles sitting under covers, at some point you’re not just topping off refrigerant — you’re pulling half-shafts, doing CV axle work, and trying to figure out what lift and what AC equipment actually earns its floor space. Year One: From Delivery to First Real Service

Most collectors we work with start the same way. A truck shows up with a two or four-post lift, it goes in the garage, and for the first several months it mostly holds cars up so people can admire the undercarriage. Then, usually around month eight or nine, something actually needs to come apart — a leaking axle seal, a torn CV boot, or an AC system that’s lost its charge over a long winter of sitting. Why AC Service Can’t Be an Afterthought on Stored Vehicles

This matters directly for axle work too — a lift rated tight to your heaviest vehicle leaves less margin for the extra stress of pulling and torquing components while the car is in the air. Setting Up a Home Bay That Actually Works Long-Term

A storage building that’s going to double as a service bay needs more than a lift and an AC machine — it needs clearance height, floor anchoring appropriate to your slab, and enough electrical capacity to run a two-post lift and an AC recovery machine at the same time without tripping a breaker mid-recovery. We see this missed constantly in pole barns that were built for storage first and retrofitted for service later.

If you’re planning this out before construction is finished, loop us in early. We’d rather tell you what conduit and anchoring you need before the concrete is poured than try to retrofit a lift installation around a slab that wasn’t planned for it. A professional walkthrough at install time catches most of this before it costs you anything.
