That’s the right instinct. An ALI certified car lift has been evaluated for structural integrity, cable routing, locking mechanism reliability, and overall load handling by a third party, not just the manufacturer’s own claims. For a shop doing frequent diff service — meaning frequent raising and lowering, frequent weight shifts as fluid drains and components come off — that independent testing is the difference between a lift that holds up for a decade and one that starts showing stretched cables and sagging arms within a couple years.

We always ask builders for actual loaded weight, not curb weight, before recommending lift capacity.
