Myth: Any Concrete Slab Will Hold a 15,000 Lb Lift

This is the single biggest myth we correct on the phone every week. A 15,000 lb capacity two post lift concentrates enormous point loads through four anchor bolts per column, and EV platforms with battery packs push weight distribution differently than a traditional gas vehicle on the arms. Four inches of unreinforced slab that’s been sitting for twenty years is not the same as six inches of new structural concrete. We’ve turned away installs where the existing floor simply couldn’t be trusted, and we’ve seen shops spend more fixing cracked concrete after the fact than they would have spent on a proper pour up front.

If you’re tight, a lower-rise or standard-height configuration may fit better than assuming the tallest available column height is the safe default choice.

Myth: Bay Width Is Just About the Lift Footprint

People measure the columns and figure that’s the whole story. It’s not. Suspension work means technicians moving carts, spring compressors, and shock removal tools in and out constantly, and you need swing room on both sides of the vehicle, not just clearance for the arms to open. We ask every shop how they actually work a bay day to day, not just what the tape measure says about the empty space.

An oversized bay with plenty of width gives you flexibility on which side of the shop the lift goes and how the arms are oriented for symmetric or asymmetric loading. A tight bay forces compromises on air line routing and control box placement that you’ll regret every single day you’re working under a car. Get this right during the site survey, not during install day.

Myth: Standard Arms Work Fine for Every Suspension Job

Shock and strut work often means lifting from unconventional points, and standard-length arms don’t always reach the pinch welds or frame rails on every EV platform in the same spot as a traditional sedan. We tell shops to bring us their actual vehicle mix — not just what they service today, but what they expect to add over the next two or three years — so we can talk through arm configuration and reach before the lift arrives.

Telescoping arm design gives you the versatility to adjust for different wheelbases without swapping equipment, which matters a lot when your bay handles everything from compact EVs to full-size trucks in the same week. Don’t assume the arms that came in the box are automatically the right length for your fleet mix.

Myth: Power Requirements Are the Installer’s Problem, Not Yours

We hear this one constantly — shops assume the install crew will just figure out the electrical on the day of. That’s backwards. A 15,000 lb rated lift’s hydraulic power unit has specific voltage and amperage requirements, and if your panel isn’t ready, install day turns into a delay while an electrician gets called in. Sort this out during the site survey, not the morning the truck shows up.

Talk to your electrician about the power unit specs before install week. It’s a short conversation that saves a full day of downtime and a rescheduled install crew. We’d rather answer this question on the phone two weeks out than stand in your bay waiting for a breaker to get swapped.

Myth: You Can Install Without a Forklift or Rigging Plan
