Daily maintenance work is repetitive — same lift points, similar vehicle heights, frequent up-and-down cycles. That changes what matters in a 2-post configuration. You want fast cycle times, a control system that isn’t fussy, and arm restraints that don’t require a wrestling match every time a tech swaps vehicles. An atlas 2-post lift built for commercial daily use typically has heavier-duty hydraulic pumps than a home-garage model, because it’s not sitting idle between uses — it’s running six, eight, ten cycles a day.

For daily maintenance in an existing building with fixed ceiling height, baseplate models often win simply because they don’t require the extra vertical clearance an overhead beam design does. Undersized breakers trip mid-lift, which is annoying at best and a safety issue at worst if a vehicle is partway up when power cuts.

Typical dedicated circuit requirements for a commercial-capacity atlas 2-post lift run in the 20 to 30 amp range on a 220V single-phase setup, but you should always confirm against the specific model’s nameplate rating rather than assuming. If your shop’s panel is already near capacity from air compressors, welders, and lighting circuits, this is worth discussing with your electrician before delivery day, not after. Step Five: Concrete and Anchoring Go Hand-in-Hand with Electrical Planning

An atlas 2-post lift needs a minimum concrete thickness — commonly 4 inches of properly cured, unreinforced or lightly reinforced concrete for standard capacities — and that requirement doesn’t change based on how you wire it. Voltage drop over distance is a real factor if your lift bay is far from your main panel, and it’s the kind of problem that doesn’t show up on day one — it shows up six months later as a shortened motor life. Get the wire gauge sized for the actual run length, not just the amperage on the nameplate.

Step Seven: Final Checklist Before You Place the Order

Bring it all together before you commit: confirm your budget covers the lift, install, electrical work, and any concrete remediation. Confirm single-phase or three-phase availability at the install location. Confirm dedicated circuit and breaker sizing with your electrician using the actual model’s spec sheet. Confirm your slab thickness and condition. And confirm overhead versus baseplate based on your ceiling height and bay layout.
