Installation Realities in a Pole Building
Concrete floor thickness and cure time matter as much as the lift itself. Most two-post lifts require a minimum slab thickness, often 4 inches of properly cured concrete rated at 3,000 PSI or better, with anchor bolts set well clear of expansion joints and slab edges. A 30×40 pole building shop with a fresh pour needs to cure fully, generally 28 days minimum, before anchors go in, and we’ve had to delay installs more than once because a slab wasn’t ready.
We also check ceiling height against the fully-raised height of the lift plus the vehicle, not just the lift’s spec sheet number. A 12-foot sidewall sounds like plenty until you stack a raised SUV on a two-post lift and realize the roofline is closer to the trusses than expected. This is why we offer to walk the space in person before anyone commits to a model, because a tape measure and a spec sheet can’t always tell the full story of a real building.
Maintenance Beyond the Cables
Cables get the attention because they’re visible, but hydraulic cylinders, locks, and pulleys all need periodic checks too. We tell home garage owners to grease pulley points and lock mechanisms every few months and to check hydraulic fluid levels at least twice a year.
