The current SPO series descends directly from designs Rotary refined in the 1960s and 1970s. The engineering is conservative. The columns are heavier than their imports competitors — a Rotary SPO10 column weighs about 950 lb — and the steel is thicker at the base plate and the sheave housings. That extra weight is why Rotary columns hold their alignment for decades. Challenger Lifts: 1980 to the Present

The current CL series is engineered around ANSI/ALI compliance from the ground up and shares most of its wear parts specifications with the Rotary lineup — cables, sheaves, contactors, and even the arm-pin geometry are close enough that a technician trained on one is productive on the other.
What differentiates Challenger from Rotary is subtle. The CL10 has a slightly quieter operating cycle. The Rotary SPO10 has slightly better arm-restraint hardware. Both are ANSI/ALI certified. Both have parts available same-day from our Ames warehouse for 15 years going forward. Where the dimensions diverge is on the extended-height variants. Rotary offers a 150-inch column that adds 4 inches of rise. Challenger offers a similar extended variant.
