Concrete and Bay Readiness for Southwest Iowa Fleet Buildings

Safety-First Walkthrough: What We Check Before Anyone Touches a Truck

Every install we do for a fleet account ends with a walkthrough before the crew leaves — this isn’t optional, and it shouldn’t be optional from any installer you hire. We check that both columns are level, that safety locks engage evenly on the way down, that arm restraints are functioning, and that the hydraulic lines aren’t chafing anywhere they’ll wear through in six months. For fleet vehicles specifically, we also confirm the pads and adapters actually contact the frame or lift points correctly on the trucks that will be using the equipment most — a pickup’s frame rails sit differently than a dump truck’s, and using the wrong contact point is how vehicles get damaged or worse.

We also walk fleet techs through daily pre-use checks, because a municipal shop often has multiple drivers and part-time seasonal staff using the same bay, and not everyone has lift experience. A five-minute habit — checking that the safety locks are engaged, that nothing is leaning on the arms, that the load is centered — prevents almost every lift accident we’ve ever been called out to inspect after the fact.
