In the shop, the Challenger baseplate gives full vertical clearance to the ceiling but puts a physical crossbar on the floor between the columns. The crossbar height is typically two to three inches, which is enough to catch a shop cart wheel or the edge of a body panel dolly. For a restoration bay that needs to route welder leads, plasma cables, or MIG carts under the raised vehicle, that floor obstruction is a persistent friction. The Challenger baseplate is the right autolift garage lift choice when ceiling clearance is limited or when vehicles with tall roof lines are being serviced, but it introduces workflow friction for restoration workflows that overhead configurations do not have.

Ceiling and floor trade-offs specific to a restoration workflow

Restoration workflow is fundamentally a floor-space and access problem. Body carts, dollies, welders, plasma cutters, MIG carts, and panel storage all move constantly around the raised vehicle. Full vertical clearance wins for tall vehicles or shops that occasionally service full-size vans, lifted trucks, or motor homes. Most restoration shops working classic passenger cars and light trucks do not need the vertical clearance advantage of a baseplate, and they benefit significantly from the clean floor advantage of an overhead. Arm geometry, pad selection, and body panel protection

Structural components generally carry a long window on both brands, hydraulic components carry a medium window, and wear items are excluded on both. The warranty documents differ in specific detail but not in overall structure. Iowa dealer support is where the two brands sometimes diverge, Rotary has broader dealer coverage across the Midwest historically, and Challenger has grown its dealer network aggressively in recent years.
