Rotary SPOA10 Real Dimensions

The Rotary SPOA10 asymmetric two-post is the most common dealership-service lift in our install base. Real dimensions from the current install manual: overall column height 145 inches, overall width outside-of-column 133 inches, drive-through clearance 100.5 inches. Lift capacity 10,000 pounds. Motor 220V single phase, 2.2 HP. Air requirement for lock release 90 to 125 psi, negligible CFM.

For dealership service, that 133-inch overall width matters because it fits three lifts across a standard 40-foot bay wall with room for tool cabinets. The 145-inch column height clears full-size dealership inventory — F-150s, Silverados, Ram 1500s — at full lift height. The drive-through of 100.5 inches accommodates almost every passenger vehicle in production plus most light-duty pickups. If your inventory includes 3/4-ton and 1-ton pickups regularly, we bump to the wider Rotary or move to a Challenger CLFP9 clear-floor variant at 138 inches wide with a 105-inch drive-through. Those dimensions matter for the traffic flow through the service department — get one wrong and the dealership loses a bay’s worth of throughput per day. Every autolift garage we spec for a dealership gets measured against the actual inventory mix, not the general Toyota-plus-Ford assumption.

Challenger CL10V3 Real Dimensions

The Challenger CL10V3 is our second most-installed dealership lift. Real dimensions: column height 143 inches, overall width 135 inches, drive-through 100 inches. Capacity 10,000 pounds. Motor 220V single phase, 3.0 HP — larger than the Rotary’s, which means slightly faster cycle time. Air requirement identical.

The CL10V3 is functionally interchangeable with the SPOA10 for most dealership service work. The differences come down to parts availability, cable design, and — honestly — dealer preference. Challenger’s cables use a slightly different sheave arrangement that some techs prefer; Rotary’s arm-lock geometry is easier to work with on modern pinch-weld vehicles. We stock parts for both and service both. For a Quad Cities dealership, either lift is a correct answer. The choice usually comes down to which brand your OEM training program is more comfortable with — some manufacturer service training uses one or the other in demonstration, and matching that reduces tech friction on day one. Oil Pan Gasket Workflow — Why Two-Post

An express service department does more oil pan gasket work than almost any other job class after brakes. On modern V6 and V8 engines, the oil pan reseal takes 90 minutes to two hours by the book, but the actual technician time depends on lift choice. A two-post positions the vehicle at chest height with the wheels free and the entire underside of the engine cradle exposed. The tech reaches up, drops the pan, cleans the sealing surface, applies RTV, and reinstalls. Straightforward.

The same job on a four-post is measurably longer. The runways interfere with the oil pan’s drop path on some engine layouts, and even when they don’t, the runway forces the tech to work at an angle that fatigues the shoulder faster. Multiply 15 minutes of extra time per job by 400 oil-pan jobs a year, and you’re at 100 hours of billable tech time going somewhere it shouldn’t. For an autolift garage in a dealership service department, the workflow math justifies the two-post choice on this job class alone. Add brake jobs, ball joints, and driveline work to the equation, and the two-post advantage compounds. Dealerships that put four-posts in express service usually regret it by year two. We’ve replaced enough of them to see the pattern.

Concrete, Ceiling, and Your Autolift Garage Bay Layout

Standard dealership service bays run 40 feet deep by 12 feet wide, with 14-foot clear ceilings and a six-inch slab at 4,000 psi. That’s more than enough for any modern two-post at 10,000 or even 12,000 pounds. The install goes directly into the existing slab without additional footings — cores are drilled, anchors are set, and the lift is bolted down inside a morning.

For an older Quad Cities dealership building, the numbers may be less generous. We’ve seen 11-foot ceilings that force a low-overhead variant, and we’ve seen four-inch slabs that need reinforcement before the lift can be installed. The site survey catches all of it. Bay layout is the piece that surprises most managers: the lift’s overall width plus a tech’s elbow room plus a tool cabinet needs 14 feet minimum. A 12-foot bay works with a narrow-column variant but leaves no room for storage. If your dealership is renovating or expanding, plan bay width during the architecture phase, not after. It’s a lot cheaper to add a foot on paper than to move a wall. A well-maintained Rotary SPOA10 or Challenger CL10V3 holds 40 to 50 percent of original purchase value at year seven if cables have been inspected annually and the paint hasn’t been abused. The used-equipment market for those lifts is active — smaller shops upgrading from bargain imports to real commercial lifts are the primary buyers. That’s real money back on the balance sheet when the dealership rotates equipment. Import lifts in the same age range hold 15 to 25 percent, because the parts pipeline is broken and buyers don’t want to inherit that problem. This is one of the cleanest arguments for brand choice at purchase time — the resale delta easily justifies the premium on a Rotary or Challenger, especially for a dealership doing planned refresh cycles. We buy and refurbish used dealership lifts occasionally, so we know the market from the buyer side too. That resale math sits inside every autolift garage plan we build for a dealership customer.

Parts Pipeline and Uptime Guarantees

Dealership service can’t afford lift downtime. A single bay dark for a week loses the department 40 vehicles of throughput and a meaningful chunk of labor revenue. That number drives the parts-availability question harder than anywhere else in our customer base.
