Wheel Bearing Service and Arm Configuration
Wheel bearing work is the backbone of this family shop’s revenue. That means the lift has to pick a vehicle by the pinch weld, lift clean, and give the tech room to swing a slide hammer without hitting an arm restraint. We specified a symmetric two-post with three-stage front arms and telescoping rear arms, all with polyurethane pad kits and a rotating pad shim to fit modern lift-point profiles. The three-stage front arm gives short reach for a Honda Civic and long reach for an F-150 without swapping arms. The rear telescopic locks at three positions to match sedan, mid-size, and full-size wheelbases. The tech spends less time positioning and more time working. We picked single-phase because the shop building was already wired for it and three-phase would have meant a service upgrade. Cylinder seals are the wear item that determines whether a lift lives twenty years or fifty. That meant raising the ceiling. The family agreed to reframe with taller trusses, giving us fourteen feet of clear ceiling. Overhead switch bar sits at 148 inches, safety bar clearance to the ceiling is six inches. Every measurement double-checked on install day with a laser. A taller ceiling in an autolift garage pays dividends for decades: better light distribution, easier fluid reel routing, room for a future gantry crane if the shop grows into transmission work. Do not spend a hundred thousand dollars on a lift install to keep a ten-foot ceiling because the original barn had one. Reframe the roof once and you are done thinking about it.
