The hard part is figuring out, in order, what your slab can handle, what your ceiling clearance actually is with the vehicle raised to a comfortable working height, whether your electrical panel has room for a new circuit, and whether your garage door opening allows the vehicle in at all with mirrors folded. Skip that sequence and you end up like a few callers we get every month who bought a lift online, had it delivered, and then found out their four-inch slab wasn’t rated for it.

Our quick-lube customer had run oil changes for years, so he understood vehicle flow and turnaround, but he’d never had to think about anchor bolt embedment depth or a 30-amp dedicated circuit for a two-post lift’s power unit. Concrete Readiness: The Step Everyone Underestimates

Electrical Requirements Nobody Budgets For

A hydraulic power unit needs dedicated power, and most home garages weren’t wired with a service bay in mind. Depending on the lift model, you’re typically looking at a 220-volt single-phase circuit, and if your panel is already maxed out with a workshop, a freezer, and a water heater, you may need an electrician before the lift installer ever shows up.

This was a real line item in the Sioux City cost breakdown — not the lift price, not the install labor, but a separate electrician visit to run a new circuit to the garage.
