Every reputable four-post or two-post lift sold for home-garage duty uses a positive mechanical lock system, meaning an audible click every couple of inches as the carriage rises. Our Marion customer already knew the language: how often does it click, and where does the pin ride? Oil-Change Workflow: Drain Access and Waste Fluid

Oil changes are the most common job on any home-garage lift, and they’re also the job people plan around the least. On a two-post, you can drain a standard car pan from below with room to spare. On a four-post, the runways cover half the underside of the vehicle, which means you have to raise the vehicle high enough to clear the drain plug from between the runways, usually around forty to forty-eight inches. For a filter that lives on the passenger-side firewall, you’ll typically need another six inches beyond that. Plan accordingly when we spec your lift and choose accessory drains.

Waste-fluid handling is the other half of the workflow. A single twenty-four-gallon rolling drain and a wall-mount fifty-five-gallon used-oil tote will keep a home garage clean for years, but only if the drain lives on wheels and rolls freely under the lift without snagging on air hoses. That’s why we ask about air-line routing on the very first walkthrough. Our Marion customer wanted his air lines dropped from the ceiling over the driver-side runway, which keeps the walkaround floor clear of trip hazards. If you’re running compressor air in the same building where a lift lives, plan the drops before the electrician wires the lift; retrofitting later is a headache that adds a day of downtime.
