Getting the bypass wired correctly matters a lot: it should default to a safe state when power is cut, not leave the lift in an ambiguous position.

Duty cycle rating is the detail that gets overlooked most often on these builds. A shop running heavy repeat cycles all day, such as a high-volume alignment or tire operation, needs a motor built for continuous or near-continuous duty rather than a standard intermittent-duty motor that overheats under sustained use. If you’re specifying a replacement power unit for a busy bay, ask specifically about duty cycle percentage rather than assuming a bigger horsepower number automatically means better durability.

Warranty Realities on Pump Replacement

One thing shop owners are often surprised by is how narrow the warranty window is on lift components. Hydraulic power units typically carry a limited warranty measured in a small number of years from original purchase, and once that window closes, replacement is an out-of-pocket repair regardless of how the failure happened. If the lift is out of warranty, get a straight quote instead of guessing, since power unit costs vary enough by lift capacity and configuration that it’s worth confirming before you budget for the repair.
