The vehicle sits elevated longer, gets bounced and torqued on while up, and the safety latches get engaged and disengaged constantly. Age and total hours matter when deciding between a pump rebuild and a full pump replacement. A lift under ten years old with otherwise clean cylinders and a solid frame is almost always worth repairing — swap the pump, rebuild or replace the cylinder seals, and get another decade of service. A lift pushing fifteen or twenty years, especially one that has already had a pump replaced once, starts to be a different conversation, particularly for fleet operations where downtime has a real dollar cost every day the lift sits idle.

We ask fleet managers to think about total cost, not just the repair invoice. A rebuilt cylinder and new pump on an older lift might run a fraction of a new lift’s price, but if the frame, cables, and control valves are all approaching end of life together, spending on a full replacement lift can be the better long-term move. We are honest about this on every call — we would rather sell a fleet shop one pump replacement that lasts than three quick fixes on a lift that is quietly falling apart underneath the hydraulics.
