The shop we’re talking about started the way most of these projects start: a phone call asking about a used unit, ceiling height, and whether we could deliver and install. They had about 12 feet 6 inches of clearance, a slab they weren’t fully sure about, and no forklift on site – just a tractor with a bucket. That’s a common starting point for us in central Iowa, and it’s exactly the kind of detail that decides whether overhead or baseplate automotive two post lifts even fit the building.

That opens up the entire overhead space – no beam, no height ceiling beyond the building itself – which is exactly what a shop doing tall RV and trailer work needs. It’s also the configuration a lot of restoration and fabrication shops prefer because a boom crane or engine hoist can swing freely overhead without fighting a beam.

The catch is what’s underneath. Baseplate automotive two post lifts put more demand on the concrete slab, since the floor plate is doing structural work the overhead beam would otherwise handle. We also see this after a lift gets relocated within a shop – if the ceiling changes or the unit gets shifted to a lower-clearance bay, the cables often need to be readjusted and the hydraulic line reconnected properly before it’s safe to run again.
