Automotive two post lifts get compared on capacity and price, but the western Illinois independent shop owner who called us this month wanted to compare on warranty and CV axle workflow, which is where most shop-grade lifts really live or die. CV axle work: which config wins
CV axle and half-shaft replacement is a heavy-front-suspension job. The vehicle is up on the lift, the front wheels are off, and the technician is muscling axles in and out of the transaxle. That workflow generates lateral force at the front arms of the lift. Both baseplate and overhead automotive two post lifts handle that force through the column, not the crossbeam or base beam. Read that again: the cables are consumable. If your equalizer cable fails at year four, that is not a warranty claim, that is a maintenance item you should have replaced at year three. When a covered failure happens, we drive the part out ourselves rather than waiting on the manufacturer’s shipping cycle. That gets his shop back on line in a day instead of a week. What we recommended, and why
