The entire argument for a two post in a suspension bay is wheels-free access with nothing under the vehicle. When you pull a strut assembly, replace a shock, press a ball joint, or swap a control arm bushing, you need the suspension hanging at full droop and you need clear line of sight and tool swing from below and from the side. A four post with a rolling jack gets you there eventually, but the runways are in the way, the jack is in the way, and the technician is working around structure instead of around the car.
On the Waterloo floor we timed it. A rear shock pair on a mid-size crossover took a technician eleven minutes of pure setup on a four post with a rolling jack — position jack, find the pinch weld, raise, verify, chock the runway. On a two post it was under three minutes: drive on, set arms, up. Real Dimensions From the Waterloo Bays

Column spacing on the 12,000 lb asymmetric units we specified came in around 11 feet 8 inches outside-to-outside, leaving roughly 17 inches of clearance per side in a 14-foot-6 bay — tight but workable for door swing on standard-width vehicles. Concrete and Anchoring in an Older Dealership Building
The building dated to the late 1970s with an addition from the 1990s, which meant two different slabs and a cold joint running right through one of the bays we wanted. We drilled pilot holes at all eight planned column locations. Original slab measured 5.5 to 6 inches. The addition measured 4.25 inches, which meets minimum for a 12,000 lb unit but with no margin, and one hole came up at 3.9 inches where a drain trench had been patched.
Our recommendation was a cut-and-pour at two column locations: 4-by-4-foot pads, 12 inches deep, doweled into the existing slab, 3,500 PSI mix, 28-day cure before anchoring. We also moved one column six inches to keep every anchor at least the required distance from the cold joint, because anchoring across or near a slab joint is how you get a column that walks. Torque values on the wedge anchors were set per the manufacturer’s install manual, re-checked after the first ten cycles, and logged. That log matters — after any incident, the first question from an insurer or an inspector is whether anchoring met spec, and a signed torque record answers it. The Used Units From the Sister Store
We inspected the decommissioned pair. Both were name-brand commercial units, roughly twelve years old, with annual inspection tags and a legible service history.
