This builder’s daily work is general maintenance on lifted trucks and overland rigs — oil changes, suspension inspections, exhaust work, and the constant tinkering that comes with a fleet of personal and client project vehicles. He’d been using ramps and a floor jack for years, but with trucks running 35-inch-plus tires and aftermarket lift kits, getting a jack under the frame safely had become its own hazard. He wanted a BendPak 14K 4 post lift specifically because the drive-on runways don’t care how tall the truck sits or where the frame rails are — you just drive up and go.

We talked through his daily workflow before recommending anything. In this case, the slab measured out at an adequate thickness, but we also cored a couple of test spots near the planned column locations to check for voids, cracking, or previous repairs that wouldn’t show up on the surface. A slab can look solid and still have weak spots underneath from age or ground settling, and Sioux City’s clay-heavy soil composition makes that kind of hidden movement more common than in some other parts of Iowa. Why Rebar and Reinforcement Came Into the Conversation

Anchoring the Columns for Heavy, Repeated Use

Runway Length and Ramp Configuration for Lifted Trucks

Off-road builds create a specific challenge for four-post lifts: tall ride height combined with aggressive approach angles on custom bumpers means standard ramp angles can be too steep for some builds. We spent extra time during this Sioux City install configuring ramp length and runway positioning so his tallest trucks could drive on without the front bumper or skid plate catching on the ramp transition.

We also positioned the lift with enough clearance around all sides for him to move around a lifted truck safely once it’s raised — something that’s easy to underestimate when a vehicle sits several inches taller than stock and technicians need to work standing rather than crouching.
