Off-road and overlanding builds bring lifted suspensions, aftermarket bumpers, skid plates, and rooftop tents into the mix — all of which change how a truck sits on a lift. The BendPak HD 9 carries a 9,000-lb capacity across a four-post runway design, which gives a lifted rig a stable, drive-on platform without needing to find frame contact points the way a two-post arm-style lift does. Overhead Clearance and Column Placement

A BendPak HD 9 lifted to full height, with a raised truck already tall from a lift kit, can get close to ceiling joists or garage door tracks fast. Column placement also affects door swing and walk-around space. We like to leave enough room on at least one side of the HD 9 for a technician to roll a parts cart or transmission jack through without squeezing past a column. In this build, we shifted the footprint about a foot from the original plan so the shop’s roll-up door could still open fully with a truck parked on the lift. That’s a small adjustment on paper but it saves real frustration every single day the shop is in use.
Power and Utility Rough-In Before Anchoring
A BendPak HD 9 needs dedicated electrical service sized to the hydraulic power unit, and that circuit should be roughed in before the lift arrives — not scrambled together after. For this build, we coordinated with the shop’s electrician early so conduit and a disconnect were already in place by delivery day. That single step probably saved a full week of install delay, because waiting on an electrician after the lift is sitting crated in the bay is one of the most common bottlenecks we see.
We also recommend planning for compressed air and shop lighting at the same time. A build shop doing gasket and fluid work wants an air line reachable from under the lift, and overhead lighting positioned so the column posts don’t cast shadows across the work area. Sequencing all three utilities — power, air, and lighting — during the same rough-in pass instead of one at a time kept this project moving and avoided reopening walls or trenching the floor twice.
Delivery, Freight, and Staging in the Bay
The BendPak HD 9 ships heavy and typically arrives via freight on a pallet that needs a forklift or pallet jack to move into position. We coordinated delivery timing with the shop so the bay was clear, the floor was cured and marked, and someone was on-site with equipment to unload safely. Curbside freight drivers won’t carry components into a shop, so having a plan for that last fifty feet matters more than people expect.
We staged the columns, runways, and hydraulic unit in the order we’d install them, which kept the bay from turning into a maze of crated parts. For a working shop trying to stay open during a build-out, that staging discipline meant less disruption to the rest of their bay space during the install window. It’s a small logistics detail, but it’s part of why sequencing the whole project — not just the lift itself — makes such a difference.
Installing and Calibrating the Lift
Once utilities were roughed in and the floor confirmed, our crew set the columns, ran the cables, and calibrated the safety locks on the HD 9 to spec. Four-post lifts rely on synchronized cable tension across all four columns, and getting that calibration right the first time is what keeps the runways level under load.
