Step One: What’s Your Actual Ceiling Height, Measured Correctly

Before anything else, measure to the lowest point in the bay, not the roof deck. Restoration shops in older southern Minnesota farm buildings and converted machine sheds frequently have trusses, purlins, or a header beam sitting well below the roofline. We’ve measured buildings advertised as “12-foot ceilings” that had an actual clearance of 9 feet 6 inches once you accounted for a truss chord crossing the bay.

Classic and restoration vehicles often have frame rails and pickup points in different locations than modern unibody cars, so arm reach and pad style matter more here than on a typical shop lift. We’ve seen restoration owners order a standard car lift Atlas package only to find factory pads too wide or too narrow for a vintage frame rail, requiring aftermarket adapters before the first oil pan job could even start.

Step Seven: Finalize Configuration and Confirm With a Site Visit

This last check confirms nothing changed between the initial phone conversation and the actual bay — a stored trailer, a new shelving unit, or an added HVAC run can all shift what fits.
