Brand History Is a Parts Availability Question

The automotive lift industry has consolidated hard over the last four decades. Names that were independent in the eighties now sit under a handful of parent companies, and a few well-known badges are simply importer labels applied to whatever factory won the contract that year. That distinction matters enormously when a lock pawl breaks. A brand with continuous manufacturing history and published parts catalogs going back thirty years will sell you a pin kit for a 1996 model. A badge-engineered import from a defunct importer will not, and no amount of persistence changes that.

The practical rule we give people evaluating any car lift automotive purchase: before you buy, look up a parts diagram for that exact model on the manufacturer’s site. What Alignment Work Demands from the Equipment

Alignment on medium and heavy-duty trucks is a different animal than passenger car alignment, and the equipment spec reflects it. You need a runway long enough to accept a long-wheelbase chassis without the front tires hanging off the turnplate pockets. You need turnplates rated for the front axle weight of a loaded straight truck, not a Camry. You need rear slip plates positioned for multiple wheelbases, and you need runways that stay flat and level under load — a rack that deflects a quarter inch mid-span throws your caster and camber readings into fiction.

Options add up faster than most buyers expect. A rolling jack is typically 15 to 25 percent of the rack price on commercial models, and you’ll want two if you’re pulling both axles. Air line kits, drip trays, approach ramps sized for low-clearance vehicles, caster kits, and extended-height column packages each add a few percent. Alignment turnplates themselves are often sold separately from the rack. We quote all of it as one line so nobody discovers on install day that the turnplates weren’t in the box. Unloading is the piece buyers forget. A flatbed with 26-foot runways needs a forklift with adequate capacity and reach, or two forklifts working in tandem with a spotter. Still, a 30,000 lb rack needs a slab that can take it. We want a minimum of six inches of 3,000 PSI concrete under a heavy-duty rack, and for truck shops we’d rather see eight. If the slab needs help, you’re looking at saw-cutting and pouring footing pads under each column, then waiting out a 28-day cure. Electrical is more predictable: a dedicated 220V circuit with a disconnect near the power unit column, usually a few hundred to around a thousand dollars installed depending on panel distance and whether you’re pulling new conduit across the shop. None of this is glamorous, but a car lift automotive budget that only counts the equipment price is a budget that’s going to be wrong by 30 to 50 percent. Cost Tier Four: Installation Labor and Commissioning
