There isn’t a third configuration that makes economic sense at that scale. Scissor lifts don’t have the wheels-free clearance for full driveline work. Mobile columns work, but for a shop that isn’t lifting Class 6-plus trucks, they are overkill and take up storage space when parked.

For differential fluid work specifically, the 2-post shines because you can drop a fluid pan, spin the driveshaft, and reach the rear diff cover without a runway in the way. Reach and clearance are the whole point. On the 4-post you always fight the platform. Where the 2-post loses is on quick brake inspections and any time the tech just needs the vehicle up two feet, because the 2-post is a full arm-setting ceremony every time. On a 4-post you pull the rolling jacks out of the way and the vehicle sits on the runways with the wheels on. Mixed-service days favor the 4-post. Deep-service days favor the 2-post.
