A collector in Sioux City called us in the spring of 2025 wanting a car lift for what he described as “the CV axle project from hell” — a garage-stored AWD sedan with a bad inner joint on both sides and clicking that had gotten loud enough to embarrass him in his own driveway. That single job started a first-year ownership story that touched everything from three-phase panel wiring to seasonal storage of his other four vehicles. Month Zero: The Electrical Reality Check
He wanted a two-post car lift because CV axle work is a wheel-off job and he was tired of jack stands. What he didn’t know was that his garage electrical panel was 100-amp single-phase, and while a two-post lift will run on 220 single-phase happily, he was already at 80-percent panel load with a welder, compressor, and a heated floor. We had two options: upgrade his panel to 200-amp, or run a dedicated 220 circuit and physically lock out the compressor when the lift was in use. He chose the 200-amp upgrade for $1,800 through his electrician, and that ended up being the smartest single dollar he spent all year.
Lesson from month zero: check your electrical capacity before you order a lift. A 10K car lift draws around 25 amps at startup on 220 single-phase. Month One: Install Day and the First Cycle

Month Four: The First Weep and How We Fixed It
End of July he noticed a small hydraulic seep from the hose fitting at the base of the driver-side column. Not a full leak, just a wet spot. He called us on a Friday afternoon, we shipped a new fitting overnight from our Iowa warehouse, he swapped it Saturday morning, and reported the seep gone. Total cost: zero, covered under the two-year hydraulic component warranty on the car lift. Total downtime: not even a full day.
Compare that to the story we hear regularly from customers who bought lifts from mail-order sellers with no local presence: a weep becomes a return-authorization number, then a 10-day wait for a $30 fitting to ship, then out-of-warranty because they can’t produce the receipt.
