Some commercial models require three-phase 208V or 240V, which most residential services do not provide.
We spec single-phase equipment for every home garage we quote unless the buyer already has three-phase service running to the shop, which is rare outside of a working farm. The circuit itself is straightforward for a licensed electrician — a run from the main panel, a dedicated breaker, and a NEMA 6-20 outlet within reach of the power unit column. Concrete Slab Thickness and Rebar

For a garage with two passenger cars and maybe a light pickup, seven thousand is usually fine — a full-size half-ton short-bed pickup weighs around 5,400 to 5,900 pounds curb weight, and the fifteen percent safety margin we build into every recommendation keeps you comfortably inside spec. If you have a three-quarter-ton or a heavy SUV like a Suburban or Expedition, you want nine thousand or ten thousand pounds of rating.

You drive up the runways, set the jack under the frame or subframe, lift the wheels off the runway for tire rotation, and drop them back down when you are done. No arm-setup, no clearance checks, no worrying about the car sliding off pads. That workflow is what wins most home-garage buyers over once they see it in person.

That last one catches more buyers than you would expect — an eighteen-foot four-post crate does not fit through an eight-foot single door without some careful angling.
Once those are cleared, sizing and brand fall out of the use case naturally. A four-post drive-on for storage-plus-service in a nine-foot ceiling, a two-post asymmetric overhead for a taller shop with mostly maintenance work, or an inground scissor if the buyer wants the lift to disappear when it is not in use.
