That is the right capacity class for a collector storing sedans, coupes, and small trucks, and it keeps the runway width and post footprint reasonable inside a 30×40 building. Hydraulic fluid level gets checked at the same time. The power unit reservoir on most 7,000 lb units holds a few quarts, and low fluid causes slow or jerky rise. Sheaves and cable rollers take a shot of grease. Lock latches should be cycled and eyeballed for wear. That is it. Check your slab thickness even for a free-standing four-post, because a 3-inch pour over soft fill will let the posts settle unevenly over a few years and you will chase level forever.
And be realistic about what goes on top. The heaviest, tallest vehicle should live on the floor. The lighter, lower, less frequently driven one goes up.
