Oil at the top of the cylinder, streaked down the barrel and pooling on the carriage or the column base, is almost always a rod seal or a loose gland nut. What a Real Seal Rebuild Looks Like on the Bench

Brand-Specific Realities: Rotary, Challenger, BendPak, and Orphans
Current-production commercial lifts are the easy cases. Rotary and Challenger both support their cylinders well, seal kits are available, and dimensions are documented — we can usually identify the right kit from a model number and a serial. BendPak and Atlas home and light-commercial lifts are similar, with the caveat that some import cylinders use metric seal sizes that don’t cross-reference to domestic kits, so guessing by eyeball is a bad idea.
