Myth: Overhead and Baseplate Lifts Use Interchangeable Parts

An overhead-style two-post lift routes its cables through the top of the columns and across a header bar, while a baseplate lift routes cabling low, along the floor, connecting through the base of each column. These switches take a beating in busy tire and wheel bays because they’re used dozens of times a day, every day, and the plastic housings and internal contacts wear out faster than shop owners expect. If your up button feels mushy or intermittent, that’s usually the switch, not the motor or the pump.
