Start With What the Lift Manufacturer Actually Specifies

Before you look at a single catalog page, pull up the original documentation for your lift. When four adapters are supporting one vehicle, the lowest-rated adapter in that set is your real ceiling, not the average. We’ve pulled adapters off lifts that were mismatched from different kits or even different manufacturers, with two rated well above the vehicle weight and two rated below it, because someone grabbed whatever fit at the parts counter.

Locking pin adapters bring their own wrinkle, since the pin hole spacing has to line up with the arm’s slot pattern or the adapter won’t seat at the height you need. Rubber-capped adapters protect painted rocker panels and pinch welds, which is standard for passenger vehicle bays, but rubber compresses and wears, which slowly changes your effective lift height over months of use. Steel adapters with a knurled or serrated top grip better under heavy commercial loads and don’t compress, but they’re harder on paint and trim if used carelessly on lighter vehicles.
