Every dealership construction bid we’ve priced out, whether it’s a Mazda store adding four lifts with air reels or a body shop moving a two-post lift to a new bay, starts with one question: what is the tech actually doing under the car? For a service department doing brake jobs, oil changes, and the occasional CV axle or half-shaft swap, the arm geometry on the lift matters just as much as the weight rating. We ask home garage buyers the exact same question before we ever talk price.

Dealership construction planning teams often get this backwards. They pick a lift based on floor space or budget and figure out arm configuration later. We push back on that every time, whether it’s a nineteen-lift commercial order or a single home unit, because the arm style determines how easily a tech can get under the vehicle’s center section where CV axles and half-shafts live. Get this wrong on a home garage lift and you’ll be fighting the equipment every time you’re under the car instead of the car itself.

Symmetric Arms: The Straightforward Choice for CV Axle Work

Symmetric arm lifts position the vehicle dead center between the columns, with the arms splayed out evenly on both sides. Dealership construction crews pour slabs specifically engineered for lift anchoring, with concrete thickness and rebar spacing calculated in advance. Home garages are a mixed bag.
