It means the safety conversation shifts to different components: locking pins or latches that hold the platform at your chosen height, and the mechanical or hydraulic system that prevents the platform from creeping down under load. If you’re wiring a new pole building shop, put 220V service on the electrical plan now, in the exact spot where the lift’s power unit will sit, so you’re not paying an electrician to run a second circuit later.

Confirm the amperage draw against your panel’s capacity too, especially if you’re planning to add a compressor, welder, or second lift down the road. Getting the electrical spec right at the framing stage is one of the cheapest decisions in the whole buildout.
