For this shop, overhead won because of the RV and trailer work specifically. A baseplate model would have meant either notching the beam or accepting some dead zones where the jacks couldn’t travel. The tradeoff is ceiling height — overhead units need more vertical clearance to work with, and this shop’s main bay had the room to spare. If your building has a lower roofline, baseplate might be the only realistic option, and that’s a conversation worth having with us before you fall in love with a specific overhead model that won’t physically fit.

Install Day: What Actually Happens

That’s the whole appeal of a drive-on platform for this kind of work: there’s no guessing where to place lift pads on a frame that doesn’t look anything like a passenger car’s.

With the rolljacks free, the tech could rotate wheels individually, pull hubs, and inspect bearings without ever having to re-jack a corner or worry about stability. On the old floor-jack routine, this same job took noticeably longer and required a second set of hands for safety. Now it’s a one-person job for most of it. Multiply that time savings across a season of RV and trailer traffic and the lift pays for itself in labor hours alone, separate from whatever new business it opens up.

What We’d Do Differently, And What We Wouldn’t

Looking back at the first year, the shop’s biggest lesson was ordering enough rolljack capacity up front rather than adding it in a second purchase later. They underestimated how often they’d want jacks under all axles simultaneously on longer trailers, and had to place a follow-up order sooner than expected.
